GD Animal Health (3 days)

  • Introduction into pig production
    What are important elements of pig production and how do they relate to each other?
  • What are disease agents?
    Characteristics of viruses, bacteria, parasites and other agents are discussed.
  • Introduction into diagnostics
    Which diagnostic options are commonly used in pig production? How can they be used?
  • Introduction into biosecurity for pig farming
    Important aspects of biosecurity on pig farms and practical implications.
  • Introduction into post mortem examination and sampling
    Demonstration of a post mortem examination and sampling methods.
  • Introducton into the respiratory system and important diseases
  • Introduction into the intestinal system and important diseases
  • Introduction into the locomotion system and important diseases and problems
  • Introduction into reproduction and important diseases and factors
  • Cases
    Interactive session focused on a disease problem, consisting of analysis, interpretation and diagnosis and designing an action plan. 
  • Laboratory tour
    A tour of the laboratory facility in Deventer.

Aeres Training Centre International climate and feed (2 days)
A practical and theoretical session on climate and feed on pig farms, including:

  • feeding of sows + piglets, weaners and fatteners;
  • focusing on feeding strategies and techniques for sows and piglets;
  • visit pig farm in relation to feeding strategies and liquid feeding;
  • climate factors pigs;
  • looking into the climate factors that are essential for pigs
  • ventilation system + capacity;
  • an in-depth analysis of ventilation systems and calculating the capacity needed for pigs in different stages;
  • climate control pig farm;
  • measuring climate in houses with farrowing pens, weaners and fatteners;
  • checking the ventilation system and settings on a climate controller and try to find improvements.

Target audience

Professionals with 1 to 5 years of experience in the sector.


€2.995, including hotel stay, breakfast, lunch, coffee/tea, transfer between GD Animal Health and the hotel, transfer to Aeres (excluding VAT).
