“I get excited when I see the passion of the pig farmers and practice veterinarians. Further improving cooperation with them and being able to commit myself to even better animal health and welfare appeals to me. You then work in a sector where food is produced for people. That is a very noble task and I am happy to put my time and energy into it.”

Biography

After graduating about twenty years ago, Bas worked in a veterinary practice for fourteen years. Due to a lung condition, Bas could no longer visit companies. He now works as a veterinarian at GD: “I think it is important that there is an overarching insight into trends within the pig sector. The practices exchange little information with each other. It is good that signals are received by GD, so that we have insight into the trends. Because we live in a regulated environment, guarantees and insight are necessary, thus monitoring. To keep the Netherlands attractive for livestock farmers, it is important that the veterinary infrastructure is in order. It is important for veterinarians and pig farmers to know which germs and metabolic disorders can be involved. By monitoring this nationally, you can possibly take measures as a sector. You also see what is going on throughout the country. Monitoring is therefore very important for a vital pig sector. I am happy to contribute to that.”
