I grew up at a dairy farm in the Netherlands. After secondary school I started my study at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht in 1976. After finishing this study in 1983, I worked as a practitioner in a mixed veterinary practice. In 1989 I started my work at Royal GD. During these years I worked as a cattle health specialist in different areas of cattle health, like brucellosis, Q fever, nutrition, paratuberculosis, etc. Since many years the topics of my work are young stock, nutrition and monitoring of cattle diseases. In 1999 I was registered as cattle health specialist by KNMvD (Dutch professional association for veterinarians). In 2002 I finished my PhD at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht. The title of my thesis was: 'Paratuberculosis in Dutch dairy herds; aspects of epidemiology and diagnosis'. Since 2004 I'm registered as a Diplomate of ECBHM (European College of Bovine Health Management). I wrote several articles in scientific national and international magazines. I've given many presentations about a variety of subjects such as young stock, nutrition, monitoring cattle diseases, fertility and paratuberculosis. I participated in more than 15 foreign training courses (Romania, Russia, etc.).
