I was born on 14th January 1955 in Hengelo (Overijssel, the Netherlands). I visited the elementary schools in Curacao (Caribean), Voorschoten and Bilthoven (the Netherlands). From 1967-1972 I went to highschool ''de Munnik'' in Utrecht, the Netherlands. I followed my veterinary education at the Veterinary Faculty of Utrecht, the Netherlands and graduated ''with Honours'' in 1979.
After a few months in veterinary practice I worked at the Veterinary Faculty of Utrecht between 1979 and 1986, at the departments of Large animal Medicine (1979-1983) and Animal Health & ambulatory Clinic (1983-1986). Since 1986 I have worked for GD Animal Health. First on research for eradication programs for endemic cattle diseases and since 2002 I'm one of the key-members in our National Monitoring & Surveillance program.
In 2004 I became a specialist of the European College of Bovine Health Management.
