On June 5th, 2025, our expert Erik van Engelen delivered an insightful webinar on our Streptococcus suis (S. suis) animal model. Erik discussed the causes and impacts of S. suis infections, detailed the development of our S. suis animal model, and showcased its usage. He illustrated how laboratory studies and experimental models enhance understanding of infection progression and provided tools for assessing preventive and curative measures.

Presentation by: Erik van Engelen, MSc, PhD

After graduating in biology, Erik studied veterinary medicine and became a bovine practitioner. He started at GD as an immunologist, switched to bacteriology, and obtained a Dutch specialization. Erik is involved in several studies on the detection and characterization of important veterinary pathogens, including the production and improvement of autologous vaccines.
